An optimised mobile experience for employees to learn and grow
Project overview
Learning is one of the core modules in engagedly’s people enablement mobile app. It is a comprehensive solution for all employees in an organisation to learn and grow for their up-skill. It provides easy access to all courses related to training, compliance and gives the ability to keep track of learning progress, ensure that employees are meeting their performance milestones.
My role
As a sole product designer, I was responsible from conceptualisation to release by working closely with Internal teams and senior leadership. Designed workflows and built prototypes to test under the mentorship of lead product designer to get timely feedback on design Iterations and decisions.

Challenge
The challenge was to design the learning module in an engagedly mobile app for employees to easily access content and provide flexibility to complete training on the go. At the same time the learning module is utilised by most organisations, we want to make sure employees had a great mobile learning experience to make them start, pause, and resume training from anywhere.
How we solved this problem
We have explored Learning management system(LMS) solution on the web to understand all the use cases using following research methods i.e
Testing the current flows on the web.
Contextual enquiry with employees to understand the context and talking about their tasks.
Analysis of learning apps in the market.
Defining the journey
We defined the jobs to be done by employees to understand the needs of the users that would help us building the experience. It also helped us to refer back constantly reevaluating the designs while considering users points of view.

Solution
These holistic approach gave us a deep understanding of the user journey and problems that the users of the application are facing, as well as primed some thinking about potential solutions.
Learnings, feedback and growth
"Simplicity is the key" rule works here from content to layout. Home page and course details allows it to remain simple but still gives enough information to make an informed decision.
I learned that how 10x rule has an impact from concept to live product and this helped me run multiple A/B tests for each of the iteration and following common design pattern wherever possible.
Analytics & Outcome
After successfully launching the learning module in our app, we created really positive impact to the users by improving their efficiency and the business by module adoption and customers retention. With a mobile app, teams that are always on the move are keeping learning will regular updates and notifications keep learners on track.

Learning Home page
This page allow users to have an overview of all courses which are in progress, Not started, Evaluation pending and completed. It helps learners to track their progress and complete the course before timelines.
We have designed the home page with different layouts for each sections to allow users to focus on right content and to break the monotonous of page. It also allowed to save lot of vertical space rather than displaying all the content at once on a very long page and introducing learners to smaller chunks of information. These multi dimensional layout is flexible and helped learners by showing a variety of options without making them visit separate category pages.

Learning courses library
Users have access to the best learning material and organisations can create learning content from internal materials or bring curated third-party content into the library. Quickly add documents, videos, text, quiz, articles, and more.
All courses are grouped into categories and learners can search and filter the courses to access them easily. At the same time we designed a choosing experience focusing learner attention on points they gain after completion of course.
Start, Pause and Resume course
Flexibility to complete the courses. employees can start, pause and resume the course from anywhere. Sequential pattern will allow user to complete the units one after the other and at the same time non-sequential pattern allow to complete any unit according to learner choice.
Users can see all units which are completed, In progress and Not started. Each unit type has duration to complete it.



Course detail, ratings and reviews
Before enrolling in any course, users have easy access to view all course details and reviews to make the decision easier and fast.
We have used chunking method to show information to users. To make user decisions easier and fast we have highlighted and driven the initial focus on key highlights of course and at the same time they can view number of units in a course.


Measure Knowledge and skill development
Building short quizzes to ensure that the users understands the learning material and is gaining new skills. multiple-choice questions to test their newly acquired knowledge or add open-ended questions for extra insights.
Submit Rating & Review
Once completing the course, users can help admins to get timely feedback on the courses by ratings and reviews to constantly improve the learning process.
In order to give honest feedback and protect the identity, they can be an anonymous.
